M’s First Birthday!

009aWe celebrated M Bug turning one this past weekend.  It was a supper busy, happy, fun-filled day.  I thought I would probably cry at some point during the day because, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, I have had a hard time with the idea that my baby is a whole year old.  But I managed to get through the whole day with maybe only half a tear!

We played a game at the party where guests matched up Mason’s picture to his age (from 0 to ten months).  Apparently it was pretty hard because the highest score was 3 out of ten correct!  I should have made Spencer play because I’m curious if he could have gotten a higher score.  001002I don’t know if you remember the hot air balloons I made for M’s nursery.  Well, they were getting really wilted and worn out and I decided to make him some new ones, which I hung from the chandelier in the kitchen as party decorations!  I think they turned out super cute.  I have enjoyed looking at them during mealtime so much that they have yet to make the voyage to M’s room.  Probably tomorrow I guess.  008a007aWe served a few treats (in mason jars of course!) and had a fruit and veggie tray, as well as chips and salsa.  025My big boy!  He was pretty cranky Saturday morning, but he took a SUPER long nap (nearly three hours which is really rare for him) and woke up happy for his party.  I wish I would have done a better job of taking pictures of all the guests.  I was too busy chatting I guess.  But we were glad we could celebrate with good friends!  We will forever love the friends we have here who are our family away from family.  017a
058We were especially glad that some of M’s birth family could be there!  His Natty, Grandma, and Uncle made quite a long trip to see the Cutie Pie and we LOVED having them here.  It was so special to have them share the day with us.  It made me so happy to see them playing with that little kiddo we all adore so much and M just soaking up every second of their love and attention.  I honestly can’t even tell you how much we enjoyed their visit.  This little guy is so lucky to be adored by so many.    031063
The highlight of the party was watching M eat his cake!  Spencer, Nat, and I were talking about how we just knew that M would dig right in.  We knew he wouldn’t be the least bit tentative.  And boy were we right.  This kid CHOWED DOWN!!! He was grabbing fistfuls of cake and alternating eating out of each hand.  We were all dying.  Spence and I had to cut him off, or I am convinced he would have eaten the whole six inch cake.  It was seriously so funny, I will have to post a video.

043044050I can’t believe he’s a year old. Well, technically he’s not QUITE a year old, but in a few days we will officially have a one year old. Nat got him those little red shoes he’s wearing in the photo below and gave them to him when he was just days old, and I remember both of us talking about how big they seemed and how he would never fit into them. And now he does. Crazy.

I’m so grateful for what an amazing year it has been.  Lots of thoughts on that, but we’ll save that post for another day.  We sure do adore our sweet little boy.  M's birthday

  4. He is so stinking adorable! I love the little hot air balloons. My kids turning one always makes me sad because the first year goes by so quickly and the baby seems to be gone. Love the pictures with his birth family. One of my favorite things about visits with our birth families is being with people who truly love our child as much as we do. I love watching them adore my kids! And I can see that in the picture with M's birth family.
