I am so very behind on documenting what’s been going on in our lives. I left pretty quickly to go out of town to help my family and was gone for several weeks. We’ve had lots of big and stressful things going on. But we did have some good adventures too, and the boys are always doing cute and funny things so I want to record some of what we’ve been up to.

What better place to start than… Kellen is HALF A YEAR OLD! … WHAT!

At six months old Kellen is:

Eating- More and more solids all the time. We are introducing new foods very slowly because his birth family has a history of food allergies and we want to be careful about watching for that. But so far he likes absolutely everything we give him. The only thing he is picky about is the temperature about his food. He likes his food to be as close as possible to room temperature. His favorite foods seem to be bananas and apples so far. But it is almost hard to say because he really does gobble down anything we put on a spoon. He still can down a bottle in no time flat, if he’s not being distracted by Brother that is. But if Mason’s in the room, we have a hard time getting Kellen to focus on the task at hand.

Playing- With his fingers and toes. One of my favorite stages is when babies discover their toes. It is so darn cute to see him stuff his feet in his mouth, or play with his toes like they’re just the most amazing invention. But he does have this little problem that sometimes he bites his toes too hard, occasionally hard enough to make him cry.

Rolling- All over the house. He can seriously get around and can navigate pretty well by steamrolling along. He is able to roll from one end of the room to the other, usually in hot pursuit of a toy. He is fond of rolling off the carpet onto the hardwood floors, only to have me re-locate him back to the softer surface. He enjoys rolling all around his crib and is in a different position every time I go check on him. He especially seems to like sleeping on his tummy.

Standing- With us supporting him of course. He has strong little legs and prefers to be standing to sitting most of the time. He loves his johnny jump and thinks he is so darn cool to be upright like a big boy. He likes to walk himself over to grab the doorjamb and spends a lot of time trying to reach far enough to chew on it. He has yet to succeed on that one. He doesn’t do tons of jumping so much as walking in there. He likes to spin in circles and reach for people that happen to be walking past (and he is delighted as can be if he happens to grasp someone’s pant leg or hem and he gets pulled along until he lets go and goes swinging backwards).

Sitting- … Well, he’s still not able to sit up on his own yet. He’s getting closer though. I think a lot of it has to do with he likes to be MOVING and isn’t motivated to stay in one position, like the act of sitting would require.

Singing- Himself to sleep every night. I swear the times he is the most vocal are when I lay him down for naptime or bedtime. He talks and sings and is happy as a calm in there until he drifts off. I don’t know why he talks the most when he’s alone, but I love hearing his little voice talking up a storm.

Saying- Dada! Right now it’s more of a noise than a word, but it is darling to hear him say nonetheless.

Growing- Up and up and up. He’s already wearing mostly 9 month clothing and a lot of it is none too huge. He still has tiny feet though. He’s outgrown his swaddles, so we FINALLY convinced him that it’s ok to just be swaddled under the armpits. Even though he’s okay with having his arms loose, he still needs to be at least halfway wrapped up. Or be wearing one of those blanket sleeper sacks.

Loving- Slapping his pot belly when he’s really happy. Bathtime. Toys. Mason. Being outside. Swinging. When we make stuffed animals “eat” his tummy. His Johnny Jump. Wiggling.
