Cutie Pie is doing so many fun things at one year old! He is quite the little busy body and into everything! He still lives for pulling books and movies off the shelf, unpacking the diaper bag, emptying his toy box, yanking all the pots and pans out of the cupboard, and pulling his clothes out of his drawer. He is just always happiest dissembling some or other shelf or cupboard of the house. I have been working really hard to teach him that we put things away when we’re done playing with them and we sing the “clean up” song while I help him clean up, but we’ve still got a ways to go on that one.
The little mister ADORES reading stories, at least as much if not more than clearing shelves. The very first thing M crawls to in the morning is his bookshelf. He will take just one book down and hold it in his lap while he flips the pages and sometimes yammers quietly to himself as he “reads.” When he’s finished with that one, he will pull another one down and flip through the entire book before selecting the next in line. It is the cutest thing in the world to see M completely engrossed in literature such as, “Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You?” or “The Teddy Bears Birthday Surprise.” It is amazing how long his attention span is. He doesn’t have such a long attention span for all things, just for his stories. We spend a good chunk of every day sitting in the rocking chair while I read to Mr. M. I love holding him close while we read a good book. It’s one of the best parts of the day.M pulls himself up on everything and it’s all I can do to get him to stay seated in the bathtub anymore. He still most often pulls himself to a stand while holding on to me, but he also likes standing while holding on the couch so he can reach for Lizzy as she perches on her favorite cushion. He still loves zipping around in his walker. His absolute favorite thing to do is run full speed ahead at Lizzy’s dog dish and watch water sploosh over the edge upon impact. There’s often a puddle in that corner of the kitchen.
The Bug still would rather be in our arms than anywhere else. And he still loves to cuddle. Every night before he goes to bed he likes to sit in my lap in the rocking chair and cuddle while he sucks his thumb. My favorite thing in the world is when he rests his little punkin head on my chest. It melts my heart every single time.
I love to peek in on my sleeping baby. It is the CUTEST when he sleeps with his bum in the air. I have no idea how he finds that comfortable, but he sleeps like that pretty often.
M can do a couple of animal noises. He knows puppy and monkey. It is super cute to hear him go “aaah aaah aaah” when we ask him what noise a monkey makes. He can also identify hand, nose, and mouth. But we have to remind him to be gentle when we ask him where mama or dada’s nose is because he can bop us on the nose pretty hard!
M has such cute curly hair. We hope that it stays curly! I love every curly lock!
M still loves to be outside. We are loving the warmer weather and go on a walk to the park every day that we can. M loves swinging so much he about wiggles out of his skin when we put him in the diaper swing.
M is finally seeming to develop food preferences. He used to eat literally anything we would give him, but he seems to be getting a big more opinionated about certain things. Luckily he will still eat most things, but he has just a couple of things that he doesn’t seem to like (oddly he doesn’t care for plain strawberries, but he likes them in smoothies) but for the most part he enjoys eating whatever we are eating.
Cutie Pie keeps us laughing with the funny faces he makes. He is so expressive! He has started making this cute face where he puckers his lips. It’s like he thinks he’s a model. He does it all the time! It looks kind of like this:
He also does this funny thing where he purses his lips and raises his hand as though he’s in a Shakespearean play. He gestures with one hand while monologueing in baby babble. It’s pretty dang cute.
I love every silly face and expression M makes. He’s just so dang cute.
