Last week we were able to finalize Kellen’s adoption! That means we were able to appear in court before a judge and we are now the legal guardians of Kellen. Prior to finalization, LDSFS was actually Kellen's legal guardian since Josh and Serena signed relinquishment papers shortly after Kellen was born. For most adoptive couples finalization is a HUGE deal, but we kind of consider finalization as another step towards the temple, which is obviously the biggest deal for us. Mostly, things don't feel any different now that Kellen's "officially" ours because obviously Kellen was already a part of our family in every way.
In any case, the boys were actually both very well-behaved in court, though I did slip Mason a bag full of "nackies" to keep him content since he hates being contained more than anything in this world and I could sense his irritation rising as he attempted to slip off Spencer's lap. I hoped the judge wouldn't be irritated by goldfish crackers in his courtroom and luckily he seemed understanding. And as for Kellen, well he just slept through the whole thing! Little cutie pie. He did look very dapper in his little striped vest that he got especially for the occasion.
Josh and Serena were especially on our minds all during finalization. We are so grateful for them and for their decision to give Kellen a forever family.
You all look great in these pictures! Such cute outfits on the boys!
